HSBC England Sevens Player of the Year Award 2015 Nominees

The Rugby Players’ Association (The RPA) is delighted to announce the shortlist for the HSBC England Sevens Player of the Year Award 2015, to be presented at the RPA Players’ Awards held at Battersea Evolution on Wednesday 13th May.

The 2014 HSBC England Sevens Player of the Year was won by Captain Tom Mitchell and is awarded to the player that shows exceptional talent on the Sevens circuit as voted for by the England Sevens squad. This year is particularly significant for the game of Sevens with qualification to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro up for grabs.

This year’s nominations include the talented Alex Gray, who has become an integral part of Head Coach Simon Amor’s squad. A powerful player who has put in a number of impressive performances and was key to England’s victory in Tokyo.

Joining Gray is England Sevens newcomer Charlie Hayter. The explosive winger is enjoying a fine debut season and has weighed in with a number of important tries, including scores in the semi-final and final of England’s victorious campaign in the far-East.

Our final nominee is last year’s winner and current England captain, Tom Mitchell. It’s been yet another prolific season for the skipper who has guided his side to 4th in the HSBC Sevens World Series rankings after seven events, including victory in Japan.

The nominees for the HSBC England Sevens Player of the Year 2015 are:

Alex Gray

Charlie Hayter

Tom Mitchell

Quotes from nominees:

Alex Gray said: “I’m over the moon to be nominated for an award that recognises the tremendous talent we currently have in the England Sevens squad. All the players deserve to be rewarded for their efforts and whoever takes home this award will definitely continue to flourish in an England shirt. For me personally, there’s no better feeling than being backed by your team-mates and hopefully I can continue to play well and contribute to our success.
