International rugby players are poised to vote for their own annual player and team of the year awards following a landmark partnership between the International Rugby Players Association (IRPA) and mobile application company, Ultimate Rugby.
For the first time, players will be invited to pick their own Player of the Year, International Newcomer of the Year, International Team of the Year, and World XV of the Year, with votes for the 2013 awards to be counted and collated throughout this month’s international series.
Fans can also participate in in Ultimate Rugby’s IRPA Awards by voting on their Player, and World XV of the Year through Ultimate Rugby’s downloadable app.
The nominated finalists for the fans’ World XV of the Year and Player of the Year will be announced shortly; the Ultimate Rugby IRPA finalists on November 20, and the winners the following week.
Ultimate Rugby pioneer and Irish great Brian O’Driscoll said it was fitting international rugby players should have the opportunity to recognise their own.
