Hodgson, who spent the first 11 years of his career with Sale Sharks, is the Aviva Premiership’s record points scorer amassing an incredible 2,594 points in 250 matches for Sale and Saracens.
During an illustrious career the 35-year-old has won two Aviva Premiership titles, the first with Sale in 2006 and the second with Saracens in 2015, he has 38 England Caps and toured New Zealand in 2005 with the British & Irish Lions.
On the news of receiving his award Hodgson, said: “I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy a long and successful career and it’s an honour to receive an award voted for by my peers. The RPA is a fantastic organisation and the support they provide for players is invaluable. I look forward to joining the RPA and their guests on the night to celebrate what has been a fantastic season.”
Damian Hopley, Group CEO of the RPA, said: “Charlie’s been an outstanding contributor to our game and to retire as the Aviva Premiership’s all-time leading points scorer and goal kicker speaks volumes for his exceptional ability. As one of the best playmakers in the Northern Hemisphere throughout his enduring career, Charlie has cemented his place among the greats of the English game and I’ve no doubt he will enjoy continued success in his new role as Saracens Head of Recruitment and Talent Identification.”
