RPA Statement: Wasps and Worcester Warriors

RPA Statement from General Secretary Christian Day following today's announcement from the RFU in regarding Wasps and Worcester Warriors

Since the RPA became aware of the financial difficulties facing Wasps and Worcester Warriors, we’ve been working with the games stakeholders to try and find the best chance of survival for rugby union at both clubs, but also the best possible outcome first and foremost for our members, but also for all the staff members at the club and for the fans.

Whilst it's extremely pleasing today to say that Wasps will re-enter the Championship next year and in doing so will pay all rugby creditors what they're due, that announcement is tinged with sadness because today it's confirmed that Worcester Warriors will not and Atlas have taken the decision not to pay rugby creditors what they are owed.

Worcester Warriors were a club with huge history and Cecil Duckworth put a huge amount of his legacy into that club. To see it now disappear because of that decision is extremely disappointing to both us and our members. The RPA will continue to work to support those ex-Worcester players, as we will all our members.
