The Leicester Tigers Development Squad had an interesting twist to their usual training schedule recently, in the company of employee engagement specialists Purple Monster.
Organised by Lynsey Hyslop, Senior Personal Development Manager for Leicester Tigers, the session formed part of the RPA’s Personal Development Programme (PDP), and looked to work on key skills such as effective communication, personal impact and initiating conversations. The PDP supports players with their education, personal development and career planning, with the aim of preparing them for a successful post-rugby career.
In the company of two of Purple Monster’s facilitators the players were taken through a series of interactive exercises to get them thinking about relaxing in uncertain situations, how to support others so that they can be their best, how people actually communicate, and how to structure a presentation to galvanise others into a specific action.
Lynsey said: “These workshops are a key part of the PDP and especially for these younger players who will, understandably, find it difficult to think about a career after rugby. The sessions help to develop the skills that they will need to maximise the opportunities they will be given during their playing career”.
Howard Karloff from Purple Monster, who ran the session, added “These players will be faced with all sorts of exciting opportunities as their rugby careers develop, and we hope this session and others like it, will help them to identify and make the most of these opportunities by starting to develop some of these key workplace skills.”
