Following the announcement of the LV= Young Player of the Year shortlist, the RPA today confirmed the nominees for the Computacenter Players’ Player of the Year Award 2013, as voted for by Aviva Premiership Rugby players based on performances in domestic rugby this season.
Christian Wade, Mako Vunipola or Joe Launchbury could complete a unique double by becoming the first player to be crowned Computacenter Players’ Player of the Year and LV= Young Player of the Year in the same season.
To have three players who are under the age of 23 nominated for the top award is extremely positive for the future of English rugby and the Aviva Premiership.
The three Londoners will have to fend off strong competition from fellow England internationals, Leicester Tigers’ Tom Youngs and Harlequins’ Danny Care.
The final formidable challenge for the prestigious title comes in the shape of Leicester Tigers’ flanker Julian Salvi who has already been named Leicester Tigers’ supporters Player of the Season in recent weeks.
The winner will be announced at The RPA Computacenter Players’ Awards 2013, to be held at Battersea Evolution, London on 22nd May.
RPA CEO Damian Hopley said: “This has been another remarkable season for English rugby and it is great to see so much young home grown talent emerging throughout the Aviva Premiership. I would like to congratulate all those players who have been nominated by their peers for these Awards – which are the most coveted in English rugby.
“The 2013 RPA Computacenter Players’ Awards promises to be another outstanding evening and with only a few tables left to sell, we are all looking forward to celebrating the achievements of our players whilst raising as much money as possible for Restart – the official Charity of the Rugby Players’ Association.
