A number of Sale Sharks players were on hand recently as Nine Feet Tall Consultant, Kirsty Robinson, spent an afternoon in Manchester talking business with some of the club’s finest playing minds.
The personal development afternoon, organised by The Rugby Players’ Association (RPA) was an opportunity not only for the Sharks to pick up some new skills, but to pilot elements of a broader personal development initiative in business communications, due to be offered to clubs across the country later this year. The course will further expand the RPA’s outstanding Personal Development Programme (PDP) that aims to support, guide and assist players in their personal and professional development, and prepare them for a life after rugby.
On the agenda this week for the enthusiastic Mancunians was a short, sharp module looking at written communications in the business environment. By the end of the afternoon the whole room was clued up on the do’s and dont’s of workplace email and equipped with the perfect approach email to secure coffee with a new business contact, as well as a personalised list of attributes and experiences to make their LinkedIn profiles prosper.
John Millington, RPA Personal Development Manager for Sale Sharks, said: “A huge thanks to Nine Feet Tall for hosting the session and for the hard work in planning and helping the players understand more about communicating throughout the business world. The session was piloted very well by Kirsty and I’m sure all the lads took a lot from each topic covered.”
