The annual RPA Computacenter Players’ Awards, taking place this year on Wednesday, May 22, will include a brand new award designed to recognise the outstanding talent on offer in the RFU Championship.
Sponsored by the Rugby Football Union (RFU), the RFU Championship Player of the Year Award will be presented at Battersea Evolution, in front of the biggest names in rugby union.
The award is the first of its kind in the RFU Championship, and reflects yet further development in the second tier of professional rugby in England.
Speaking at the announcement of the RFU Championship Player of the Year Award, Championship Clubs Chairman Geoff Irvine said:
“It’s a credit to all the clubs, players and supporters that the Rugby Players’ Association (RPA) has chosen to recognise the RFU Championship at this prestigious awards evening. In only four seasons, the RFU Championship has progressed from its inception to a professional second tier and this award is another significant step forward.
“We have some exceptional talent in the Championship. You need only look at the England players who have passed through the league to see that. I’m sure whoever wins the award on May 22 will have an equally bright future ahead.
