RPA Award winners go head-to-head in RWC Opener

The 2015 Rugby World Cup is finally upon us and what better way to kick-off this showpiece event than watching England begin their bid for glory under the bright lights of Twickenham Stadium.

As the teams line-up at Rugby HQ one of the most intriguing match-ups will be the reigning RPA Players’ Player of the Year, Jonathan Joseph, taking on the 2014 Players’ Player of the Year, Vereniki Goneva.

Both have been selected at outside centre and both possess the skills to trouble any defence in World rugby. Joseph has the dazzling footwork, yet Goneva is one of the most powerful players in the Aviva Premiership.

Fijian Goneva has demonstrated his devastating finishing for Leicester Tigers on many occasion and Joseph’s flair and creativity was integral to Bath’s push for Premiership glory last season.

Both have earnt the respect of their peers and join a long list of outstanding players to be crowned RPA Players’ Player of the Year. These include former RWC winners, Neil Back (1999), Jason Robinson (2002) and Jonny Wilkinson (2003).

Goneva and Joseph are just two of a host of RPA members who will spend the next six weeks battling it out for the right to be crowned World Champions and we wish them all a successful and injury free Rugby World Cup 2015.
