With project management experiencing an industry boom in the UK, a group of players recently attended a Career Insight Day hosted by RPA Partner, Rhead Group, at their Head Office in Coventry.
Delivered as part of the RPA’s Player Development Programme (PDP), the Insight Day presented a terrific opportunity for the players in attendance to gain exclusive access into the world of project management and further understand the work Rhead Group does.
With many of the skills needed to succeed in rugby identical to those required in project management, such as leadership, communication and being cool under pressure, the day included discussions on careers, types of education, ways to get a job, the types of roles and potential opportunities available for players at Rhead Group.
One player who found the whole experience extremely valuable was RPA Player Representative for England Sevens, Phil Burgess.
“Before attending today, I really didn’t have any idea what project management was or what it actually involved.
“Today has opened a can of worms, because there are so many different opportunities in the industry and Rhead Group are one company which really appeals to me, in terms of how many work options they actually have.
“One of the biggest things that I will take out of the whole experience is that the industry literally has so many similarities to rugby, the skills we possess such as teamwork are incredibly transferable to project management and if you apply yourself in the right way the opportunities will be endless.
