Restart Rugby Launches ‘Scrum Bake With Me’ Challenge

MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace has thrown his support behind a new fundraising initiative which will see professional players from across the country donning their aprons in an effort to raise vital funds and awareness for Restart Rugby, the official charity of the Rugby Players’ Association. Launched in Cheltenham today with members of the Gloucester Rugby squad, Scrum Bake With Me is a new cross-club baking initiative from Restart Rugby which will see players from a number of Premiership clubs, along with the England men and women’s 7s teams, take up the challenge to bake, decorate and sell as many cupcakes as possible in community locations around the country. Supported by Premiership Rugby, the challenge will form an integral part of the build-up to Restart Rugby Weekend (Round 20, April 13th – 15th), with all proceeds going directly towards Restart Rugby's work supporting professional players suffering from serious injury, illness or hardship. Gregg Wallace said: “I am extremely proud to be supporting Restart Rugby and the Scrum Bake With Me challenge. After family and food, my greatest love is rugby. Players put their bodies on the line every time they play, so to have a charity like Restart Rugby looking out for them is vitally important. “The Scrum Bake With Me Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for all rugby fans to get behind our players, support their baking efforts and raise as much awareness and funds for an incredibly important cause.” Mark Atkinson, Gloucester Rugby centre and RPA Player Representative, said: “Restart Rugby is our charity and this new initiative is something we are all really excited about. As rugby players we all face difficult times at certain points throughout our careers and it’s very reassuring to know Restart Rugby is there to help and support you through this. “This new initiative is the perfect occasion to not only swap the pitch for the kitchen, but also raise vital funds for Restart Rugby and go head to head with our Aviva Premiership rivals. I’m really looking forward to launching the Scrum Bake With Me challenge with my Gloucester teammates today."
