An opportunity to lead one of the most progressive professional player associations in the build-up to the Rugby World Cup
The Rugby Players’ Association (RPA) is the collective voice of professional rugby union players in England, providing members with welfare and representation services as well as a comprehensive Development Programme to help prepare them for life after rugby. The RPA is also the commercial representative of the England Team. Current RPA Commercial Partners include Computacenter, Affinion International, Aviva, BMW, HSBC, KPMG, Miroma, TAG Heuer, The Sunday Times and Towergate Insurance.
The RPA is governed by a Management Board of: two representatives from its members, four executives (including the CEO Damian Hopley) and four independent Non-Executives. Appointments to the Management Board are made formally by Player Representatives. The Board meets six times a year and is supported by committees covering Audit & Risk, Remuneration and Board Nominations
The RPA is to appoint two Non-Executive Board Members to replace those standing down in the next few months. Candidates should possess a passion for and good understanding of professional rugby in England and demonstrate a proven track record of success at senior executive levels in at least one of the following areas:
- Governance and Financial Management
- Marketing & Sponsorship
- Organisational Effectiveness and HR
Appointees will be members of the Management Board and of one of the Board committees. They will be expected also to attend the players’ representative Board, which meets three times a year.
Time commitments are expected to be some 12 days a year, including 12 half-day meetings, normally in Twickenham. Appointments will be for one term of up to five years. There is a modest remuneration and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed.
