He’s Scotland’s most capped scrum half and is one of Edinburgh’s favourite sons. He has captained his country and represented the British & Irish Lions during the 2009 tour to South Africa. He has played at and home and abroad and now Mike Blair finds himself plying his trade in the Aviva Premiership for the first time in his 13-year career.
However at the age of 33 the Scotsman’s thoughts are turning to life after rugby and what the future may hold. “I hadn’t really put much thought into the future until I joined Newcastle and the services of the RPA were made available to me, it really pushed home the message that I needed to be doing more. I’ve worked closely with my Player Development Manager, Mandy Thompson, to explore potential career opportunities and it’s very much a process of finding things I do or don’t like at the moment.
