During the recent Rugby World Cup in England, the International Rugby Players Association ‘IRPA’ got the opportunity to get on the road and visit some of the participating teams to help shoot their ‘#RugbyPlayersUnited’ video.
In the video IRPA members talk about the benefits of having a global association supporting them on issues of international importance as well as talking about the core pillars that make the game so great – that of Integrity and Respect.
IRPA President South and Rugby World Cup winner Richie McCaw talks about “the International Rugby Players Association being hugely important for all professional players around the world”. He adds, “It gives us a voice in decisions being made with the governing bodies.”
Also featured is Japanese World Cup fly-half Kosei Ono,
“Over the last six months IRPA has supported us in what we believe is right for us now and for the future generations of Japanese Rugby”
The video also includes players Alun Wyn-Jones, Greig Laidlaw, Kahn Fotuali’i, Victor Vito, Michael Leitch and Hale T-Pole all standing united with their International Association. Current England Women’s international Rachael Burford talks about her role on the Rugby Athletes Commission. The partnership between World Rugby and IRPA provides a formal and more structured forum through which players can have their views channelled into rugby’s decision-making processes.
It concludes with IRPA President North Johnny Sexton sharing his thoughts on Concussion protocols within the sport and how Players Associations and Home Unions are working together to improve Player Welfare.
