HSBC, the Official Banking Partner of The RPA, will once again sponsor the HSBC England Sevens Player of the Year Award to be presented at Battersea Evolution on Wednesday 22nd May. The inaugural Sevens’ Award was won by Mat Turner at last year’s RPA Computacenter Players’ Awards and has been created to recognise the exceptional talent on the Sevens’ circuit as well as the continued growth and popularity of the sport on the global stage.
Nominations for this year’s award include the current top try scorer in the HSBC Sevens World Series, Dan Norton, who has had a memorable season scoring 42 tries to date. Joining Norton is fly-half Marcus Watson who has built on an impressive debut season in 2011/12 and become a regular in Head Coach Ben Ryan’s team. Powerful forward Tom Powell completes the list of nominees following his fine form in this year’s HSBC Sevens World Series.

Quotes from nominees:
Dan Norton said: “It’s a pretty amazing feeling. I never thought I would be in a position to play sevens for England let alone to make it onto a shortlist for Player of the Year. I guess it’s a cliché but I know I wouldn’t be in this position without my team mates and the coaches, so a massive thank you must go to them.
“We can hopefully finish this season well at the Marriott London Sevens this weekend. It’s an opportunity of a life time to play at Twickenham in front of a home crowd and I’ve heard it’s sold out for the first day so we really hope we can break the attendance record for the event.
“I’ve also got around 12 family and friends coming down so I’m really looking forward to playing in front of them as they normally have to stay up until silly o’clock to watch us on TV rather than being in the crowd. Although I’m not sure if having them there will actually increase the pressure!
