Fielden announces his retirement from rugby

England 7s and former Newcastle Falcons’ winger Luke Fielden has announced his retirement from professional rugby due to a knee injury.

Fielden joined the Falcons in 2010 before switching to England 7s in 2013, he was also named the JP Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby 7 Series Player of the Season in 2012.

England 7s Head Coach, Simon Amor, said of Fielden’s retirement: “It is with real sadness that Luke was unable to fulfil his clear potential on the field with England 7s. Despite his injury setbacks Luke has remained an integral part of the England 7s squad providing leadership off the field during a period of significant change to the programme. He has shown incredible strength of character in times of real adversity and his attitude has been everything. Everyone at England 7s is confident that Luke will make a real success in his future career.
