The Rugby Players Association (RPA) staged a business networking evening on Thursday 6 March with one of its long term commercial partners, HSBC. The event was held at the bank’s Group Head Office in London and involved members of the England Rugby Sevens squad.
The event was one of a series of events designed to develop stronger links between the commercial and business world and the network of rugby players who work with the RPA. The RPA through its Player Development Programme provides a number of services and benefits for the players designed to look after their wellbeing, broaden their experience and prepare them for life after they finish playing.
Ten members of the England Sevens squad were present at HSBC’s Canary Wharf offices and England Sevens RPA Player Rep, Phil Burgess said, “It is really important for the players to experience and be exposed to the commercial world and to speak to those involved at the sharp end of business. As professional sportsmen, it is very easy to become detached from the world outside rugby and it’s important to plan for life after our playing careers, which can be relatively short.
