Charlie Amesbury: Seeking Sanctuary

As summer holidays go a trip to a Sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica isn’t your average package deal, but for Biology student Charlie Amesbury it was the perfect place to prepare for his final exams.

The former Harlequins, Newcastle Falcons, Sale Sharks and now Bristol winger completed a degree in Biology at Manchester University in July 2013 and instead of going for the conventional lad’s holiday to Magaluf or Ibiza he and team-mate Charlie Ingall chose to fly half way around the world to spend a week volunteering not partying.

Firstly can you tell us how you ended up working at a sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica?

“I’ve just completed a biology degree at Manchester University and through my course I got to know Becky Cliffe, who is currently the lead scientist on the project and doing a PhD on Sloths in Costa Rica, I asked her if there was any chance if Charlie Ingall and I could go out and help and she said yes.
