This off season has seen exciting developments for the RPA and the game in general and I’m delighted to say we have a number of talented individuals joining the RPA team.First up is Liz Beatty, who assumes the newly created Head of Fundraising role and brings with her a wealth of experience to develop and implement our strategy with Restart – the rugby players’ charity. Joining Liz is Lynsey Ward who becomes the new Player Development Manager for Leicester and Northampton. Lynsey joins us from NACRO – A Crime Reduction Charity, where she held the post of Education Co-ordinator, designing and delivering engagement sessions to prison staff.
Our final addition to the team is our new Commercial Director, Nick Byrom. Nick’s main focus will be growing the RPA’s commercial programme and rights offerings to our existing Business Partners as well as attracting new partners to work with the RPA and the players. We are all really excited about working with our new colleagues and I am confident they will be outstanding additions to the growing RPA team.
Four weeks into the new season and the off field headlines have been dominated by Premiership Rugby’s new 4 year broadcast deal with BT Vision. It would be inappropriate to comment on the deal when there are still many details to be announced, not least around European competition formats, qualification and scheduling, but this deal represents a significant growth in value for rugby union in the lead up to the 2015 RWC in England. I have every confidence that the decision makers in the game will find an appropriate solution that will continue to preserve European Cup rugby as the premier world club tournament. Through the RPA’s position on the Professional Game Board we will be working hard with PRL and the RFU to ensure that player welfare remains at the forefront of all playing and subsequent commercial decisions.
I would like to thank the team at Brandnew for their tremendous efforts in getting the new look website up and running in record time, I hope you will enjoy it and regularly use it to interact with our members and with the RPA.
Enjoy the rugby!
