The Results Are In – RPA Rugby Open

RPA Golf Day Berkshire Golf Club

The stunning Buckinghamshire Golf Club provided the setting for the 2013 RPA Rugby Open in Association with ProSport Insurance.

TAG Heuer and former Harlequins hooker, Matt Cairns, emerged victorious in the overall team competition and last year’s individual Champion, Karl Dickson, was beaten by the slightest of margins by team-mate Nick Evans, who posted an impressive score of 41 points to take the 2013 title.

An impressive array of players from both past and present attended the day including Nick Evans, Danny Care, Karl Dickson, Matt Cairns, Mike Tindall, Huia Edmonds, Jimmy Cowan, Ben Morgan, Sam Stuart, Mark Lambert, Rory Lawson, Richard Hill, Rory Underwood, Will Skinner, Olly Kohn, Chris Wright and John Gallagher.

With a number of fantastic prizes on offer it was no wonder that competition on the fairways was fierce throughout the day. Gloucester’s Mike Tindall took home the award for longest drive with a truly unbeatable effort down the 18th fairway. RFU referee, JP Doyle, went pin-seeking on the par 3 14th to walk away with the nearest the pin prize, but sadly no-one was lucky enough to claim the hole-in-one prize of a 84 inch Ultra HD LG TV.

One of the hottest areas of competition on the day was the ‘RPA Rugby Players Chipping Challenge’. A number of contenders took part all competing for the coveted title of ‘King Chipper’ but sadly no one was able to rise to the occasion and Harlequins’ Mark Lambert was awarded the prize as he was judged to have had the worst effort at the target.

The day, which raised valuable funds for Restart, the Rugby Players’ Charity, was supported by a number of the RPA’s business partners including ProSport Insurance, TAG Heuer, BMW, Northern Trust, HSBC, Monitise, Byrne Group, Affinion International, Miroma and Canterbury of New Zealand.

Many thanks to ProSport Insure, the title sponsor of the RPA Rugby Open, whose support made the day possible. Additional thanks must go to Canterbury of New Zealand, Taylormade, LG and BMW, Champagne Bollinger and the Buckinghamshire Golf Club who provided support, materials, gifts and prizes for the day.
