A beautiful September day greeted the players at the idyllic Buckinghamshire Golf Club for the annual 2014 RPA Rugby Open in association with ProSport Insurance.

A range of players from both past and present attended the day including Ben Kay, Will Skinner, George Chuter, Hugo Southwell, Mark Lambert, Paul Burke, Mike Denbee, Ben Morgan, Greig Laidlaw, Charlie Matthews, Sam Stuart, Andrew Fenby and Miles Mantella.

After an impressive display of golf, the team four-ball competition was won by HSBC and London Scottish scrum-half Miles Mantella, while former England and Leicester Tigers forward Ben Kay recorded a highly impressive score of 44 points to be crowned the overall individual Champion.

There was fierce rivalry throughout the event with all golfers battling it out to take home the prestigious titles of nearest the pin and longest drive. Harlequins’ Sam Stuart reigned supreme in the nearest the pin competition and was rewarded for his efforts with an LG G2 Phone, while the contest for the longest drive competition went the way of Canterbury’s Ben Howlett who clinched the top prize of a BMW Track Day with an impressive blow of more than 330 yards.

Following the on-course drama a glass was raised to all our winners in the clubhouse with guests treated to a post-round three-course lunch with fine wines and complimentary drinks.

The day was supported by a number of RPA’s business partners including ProSport Insurance, TAG Heuer, Northern Trust, HSBC, KPMG, Rugby World Cup 2015 Official Hospitality, Affinion International, Miroma, Robert Walters, Active Group, Premiership Rugby and Canterbury of New Zealand.

Many thanks to ProSport Insurance, the title sponsor of the RPA Rugby Open, whose support made the day possible. Additional thanks must go to Canterbury of New Zealand, Taylormade, LG and BMW and the Buckinghamshire Golf Club who provided support, materials, gifts and prizes for the day.
