FARRELL TOP PLAYERS’ VOTE AT RPA AWARDS

EMBARGOED ACROSS ALL MEDIA PLATFORMS INCLUDING TWITTER, FACEBOOK, UNTIL 11.30pm WEDNESDAY 23rd MAY

Harlequins and Saracens emerged victorious at the 14th annual RPA Computacenter Players Awards. Quins Nick Evans claimed the Computacenter Players Player of the Year Award and Saracens Owen Farrell was named LV= Young Player of the Year,as voted for by the players in the Aviva Premiership.

Evans, who joined Harlequins from the Auckland Blues in 2008, has had an outstanding season so far and is regarded as one of the best fly-halves in world rugby.

Evans said: I was very surprised and humbled to win this award, its a great honour to be voted for by your fellow professionals. I was up against some fantastic players. Mike, Chris, Steve and George have all been outstanding this season and just to be nominated amongst that group is a huge honour in itself.

Harlequins is a big machine and myself, Chris and Mike are all just small parts of that, we cant do our jobs unless everyone else in the team is doing theirs. Ive got great respect and admiration for all the guys on the team and theyve made my job easy this year and its great to see so many Quins players nominated. Weve had a fantastic season so far and hopefully we can finish the job at Twickenham on Saturday.

The LV= Young Player of the Year Award was awarded to Owen Farrell. The Saracens fly-half has had a memorable season for both club and country, also picking up the Young Player of the season trophy at the Aviva Premiership Awards earlier this month.

Farrell said: Its a massive honour just to be nominated never mind win this award, especially as its voted for by your fellow professionals. These are the guys you play against week in, week out and all you want to do is earn their respect. Its so humbling to win as you can receive all the praise in the world, but to earn this kind of accolade from other Premierhsip players is fantastic.
