On Wednesday 25th May, sixty-four keen and eager golfers headed to the beautiful parkland estate of Stoke Park Golf and Country Club to participate in the RPA Rugby Open in association with ProSport Insurance.

Present at the annual competition were current and former stars of the International game including Trevor Woodman, Shaun Perry, Kenny Logan, Dean Ryan and Sean Maitland. Karl Dickson, Sam Twomey and Tom Williams (Harlequins) made an appearance alongside former Gloucester and Samoan favourite Terry Fanolua. The RPA Players’ Board were also well represented with RPA Chairman Christian Day (Northampton Saints), Vice-Chairman Mark Lambert (Harlequins) and Andrew Fenby (London Irish) in attendance.

After navigating 18 stunning holes of the tough course, which is rated within the top 100 in the country, the team competition was won by RPA Business Club Member AFEX and Tom Williams, with each player taking home a Srixon Z 355 Hybrid club. Sean Maitland was crowned the overall individual Player Champion and won a Steak and Wine hamper provided by RPA Official Supplier, Gaucho.

Guy Horchover, Head of ProSport Insurance, said: ‘I am delighted that ProSport Insurance Services are the title sponsor of The RPA Rugby Open, we are proud to be associated with The RPA. The RPA Rugby Open is a terrific event, brilliantly supported by both rugby players, participants and sponsors alike. The event, held for the first time at Stoke Park, had a real warmth to it, despite the cold weather for May. Our thanks go to all concerned in making The RPA Rugby Open 2016 such a memorable and enjoyable occasion, there was a lot of laughter. We are very much looking forward to The RPA Rugby Open 2017 and our ongoing commitment to The RPA.’

The day was supported by a number of the RPA’s Business Partners including ProSport Insurance, Ricoh, AFEX, BMW, Sport Mobile, as well as Aviva Premiership Rugby, Active Events and Affinion International.

Our thanks go to the RPA’s official car and home insurance provider and RPA Rugby Open title sponsor, ProSport Insurance, whose support made the day possible. Additional thanks go to Srixon, Gaucho and Mammoth Mattresses for their outstanding prizes, in addition to BMW who provided a Mini Clubman for the Hole-In-One Competition. We must also show our appreciation to Stoke Park and Sporting Class who helped to deliver a fantastic golf event.
